The Revenue Rays

Eight manta rays glide gracefully through the depths, each one a guardian of annual revenue stories. These magnificent creatures mirror the green tax collection from 2018 to 2025, their impressive wingspans expanding and contracting in proportion to each year's earnings. Like living charts, they transform abstract revenue figures into an elegant underwater ballet, their varying sizes offering an intuitive understanding of the tax revenue's evolution over time.

How to read the visualization

Each of the eight manta rays represents the green tax revenue collected annually from 2018 to 2025, with their size proportional to the amount collected in each year. The larger the ray's wingspan, the higher the revenue generated in that specific year.

Chapter 3 — The Revenue Rays: Maldives tourism visualization

A clear surge in green tax revenue emerges across the years, climbing from USD 52.56 million in 2018 to an impressive USD 146.02 million in 2025. This upward trajectory was briefly interrupted in 2020, when revenue dipped to USD 22.8 million, likely due to global travel restrictions. However, the sector demonstrated remarkable resilience, bouncing back strongly in subsequent years.
